🕒 Full-Time
Salary Range: $200,000-$300,000
The Role
We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering (Nuclear) to lead Small Modular Reactor, Fuel Cycle, and light water reactor technology teams in support of various clients. Lead the establishment of engineering design processes. Oversee the conceptual, preliminary, & final design with all associated analysis, prototyping, validation, & testing for new nuclear technologies. Your own past abilities as a subject matter expert for credibility is a big bonus, but a demonstrated experience of shepherding other experts towards these ends in high stakes environments on projects that turned out successful (without sucking the souls & ruining the lives of the engineers on the team) is more important than individual technical ability.
What You’ll Do
- Make prudent plans for advancing the technology readiness level (TRL 1-9) of key enabling technologies within time/investment constraints.
- Make prompt, decisive, well reasoned key design decisions based on safety, manufacturability, and speed to market.
- Enter buildings full of Ph D engineers with smart ideas/talent (but lack of processes/progress) and show them the path from idea to fully licensed/constructed product. Gently (and sometimes not so gently, but tactfully) coaxing them to iterative success.
- Transform 40 design possibilities and uncertainty into a single design path and lead the teams down it.
- Participate in the selection of test facilities, key partners, and key team members.
- Collaborate with Project Management Organization to establish long-term engineering roadmaps, schedules, & budgets.
- Speak inspirationally to investors, regulators, boards, and engineers who report to you.
- Approve safety analyses, calculations, and test reports.
- Interface with regulatory authorities and support audits.
- Interface with the rest of the executive team.
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering or related field
- 15+ years of experience with nuclear technology (or 3 years of nuclear plus 15 years of highly relevant leadership in related fields) including 3 years of prior management or project leadership.
- Experience with light water reactor or advanced reactor designs & fuels is strongly preferred, but accelerator or other nuclear facility experience may be considered.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Proven ability to resolve technical and other disputes amongst various parties with dignity.
Why This Role
- Exposure to multiple novel reactor programs and technologies.
- Opportunity to impact economic, safety, and licensing from early design onward with extreme design authority responsibilities.
- Competitive compensation and strong benefits
