The Role
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead design, analysis, and development of fusion neutron generators and accelerator-based neutron systems. This role requires deep technical ownership across physics, high voltage systems, vacuum, power electronics, controls, tritium handling systems (or similar hazardous materials handling), and safety, with the ability to drive a program from concept through prototype and deployment.
What You’ll Do
Lead system architecture and technical decisions for neutron generator / accelerator platforms
Design and integrate high-voltage, vacuum, power, and controls subsystems
Develop test plans, diagnostics, and performance characterization approaches
Drive reliability, maintainability, and safety considerations into the design
Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software)
Produce high-quality technical documentation and present results to leadership and partners
Qualifications
MS/PhD (or equivalent experience) in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
3+ years experience in accelerators, high voltage systems, neutron sources, or similar advanced systems (Prior nuclear experience preferred and decades of experience would tend to place higher onto listed pay range.)
Strong experimental and systems engineering mindset
Preferred
Experience in regulated environments and formal safety reviews
Experience leading programs or technical teams
Relevant post-doctoral work in the areas
