The Role

We are seeking a Nuclear Mechanical Engineer to support design and analysis of nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) components and other safety-related hardware. This role emphasizes structural analysis (including FEA), code compliance, and disciplined engineering documentation suitable for nuclear quality and licensing contexts.

What You’ll Do

Perform structural assessments and finite element analysis (FEA) of NSSS and related components

Assure ASME code requirements are met

Develop engineering calculations, requirements, and specifications

Partner with thermal, systems, and manufacturing teams to close designs with practical constraints

Support design reviews, issue resolution, and verification activities

Contribute to licensing and supplier documentation packages as needed

Advise on manufacturability, margins, and schedules associated with various design & analysis choices.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of mechanical design and analysis experience (prior nuclear experience preferred and decades of experience would tend to place higher onto listed pay range).
  • FEA proficiency (ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar with a preference for ANSYS experience)
  • Familiarity with ASME code-driven design concepts
  • Strong technical writing and documentation discipline

Preferred

  • Direct experience with various portions of ASME Section III design and documentation.
  • ASME Section VIII Div 2 proficiency and demonstrated prudence in applying it relative to just doing Div 1 for tight schedule projects will be very desirable.
  • Experience in QA-controlled engineering environments (for example, NQA-1)

Why This Role

  • Work on safety-related hardware where analysis quality and code compliance matter
  • Help design new reactors from pre-conceptual design stage onwards and/or assist in life extensions & power uprates of existing nuclear power plants.
